Common Patient Inquiries
Understanding the details of your procedure can help ease any concerns you may have. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive.
What should I expect during my procedure?
During your procedure, our team will ensure you are comfortable and informed every step of the way. You will be guided through the process, and we will address any concerns you have.
How long will the procedure take?
The duration of your procedure will depend upon the specific treatment you received. Typically, procedures can be 15 minutes to half an hour or up to an hour depending upon specific treatment.
Will I experience pain during the procedure?
We prioritize your comfort and use advanced pain management techniques to minimize discomfort. Any sensations you feel will be discussed with you beforehand.
What are side effects of injections?
Some injections are steroid-based and can carry certain risks and side effects. These may include facial flushing, bleeding, hot flashes, elevated blood pressure, and an increase in blood sugar. Patients with diabetes are advised to consult their primary care physician or endocrinologist before receiving a steroid injection to develop a plan for managing elevated blood sugar.
Am I going to be awake for the procedure?
Yes. Local anesthesia, usually lidocaine, is used in all procedures and involve injecting small amount of the skin and numb the area where the procedure be performed.
How long will it take until I notice relief?
If the injection is helpful, it may take up to two weeks to notice improvement. Some patients may experience immediate relief, while others may have a temporary increase in pain before improvement occurs, as everyone’s body metabolizes medications differently due to factors such as age, weight, and kidney function. If pain continues, you may try acetaminophen or NSAIDs if not contraindicated, use ice for up to 20 minutes three times a day as needed, perform gentle stretching, and apply topical pain creams if appropriate. Contact the office or go to the nearest emergency department immediately if you develop a fever, progressive numbness or weakness in your arms or legs, loss of bowel or bladder control, or persistent headaches.
Can I drive myself home after the procedure?
Depending on the type of procedure and sedation used, you may need someone to drive you home. We will advise you on the best course of action.
